Yesterday, I was ready to trash the whole project - I was stuck, not just stuck, but cemented in confusion on what the heck I was doing and where the story was going. After hours of writing, re-writing, editing, and DELETING content, I was beaten down by the project. I felt as though the story had no glue, nothing holding it together, no map that took the reader from start to finish in a logical way. So, I took a little break, texted out a few rants, had a little wine and then a few things dawned on me.
First, I had everything on one page. That was too much scrolling, I was getting lost in the material. This took me hours, and it was PAINFUL - I was *&)(*^*&%! at Weebly the entire time, the kids ran, the dog hid downstairs, the husband snickered quietly in the other room. Second, I had to come up with an ending that closed the loop. Something that would take Mae back to the beginning of the story, something that would convey that she came full circle, but was not the same person. Something to show that a great transformation occurred somewhere along the way. That's when I realized that technology was my friend! So, I went back to the beginning and added a small element to the opening. I recorded myself typing the first few words of the story. That's how I will end it as well, with the same song playing. The song, the technology will close the loop for me. I think it'll work - at least enough that I am now unstuck.
It also occurred to me that I must love the pain; otherwise, I would just type some words, throw them up on the site, and wrap it all up with a pink bow!
