The main character in the story is a woman, who may remain nameless. She will represent parts of me, my perspectives, and my worldview; however, she will become her own person through the writing process. She will "grow" as she interacts with people who will appear through her memories.
2) WHAT is your story? WHAT genres/modes are you using for your story?
The story will be fictional. My story will begin with the main character moving into a beach house on an isolated beach. The piece will be reflective and memories will be revealed as she unpacks boxes, collects seashells, and watches the waves. I have several genres in mind for the piece which will be used for different scenes:
Stream of consciousness
Video
Poetry (found and original)
Micro-fiction - "Can't Swim"
List
Photos
Vignette
Screenplay
Diary entry
Six word fiction
3) WHEN does your story take place?
The story takes place in the present.
4) WHERE is your place?
The place is the beach. I will use the imagery of the beach to represent inner emotions, dreams, and desires of the main character.
5) WHY do you feel a connection/lack of connection to place?
The beach represents many happy memories for me and it also represents my dreams for the future. When I think of the beach, I think of summer, of having fun with family and friends, my childhood, and days I've spent with my kids. I love reading, and I usually take four books with me. I love sitting in solitude on the beach and watching the waves, feeling the salt mist and the warmth of the sun. I love looking at the endless horizon across the ocean. For me, the beach represents peace. I feel a deep spiritual connection at the beach.
6) HOW do you show your audience your connection/lack of connection to place?
The reader must be able to relate to my character; in other words, "walk in her shoes." Through common images and ideas I believe I can accomplish a connection between the reader and my character.
