A little background:
Di + complicated technology = massive amounts of colorful language
Nuff said.
So, the family stays clear of me when I'm working on my Twitterive. My husband, John, keeps threatening to record me as I interact with the technology - for posterity. He offers help, but I normally refuse with, "I can do this *^@^*!! thing myself!"
What's got me frustrated? Hmmmm, where do I begin? Okay, Weebly is pretty simple, however, I have had to find many work-arounds for the "simplicity" it offers.
First, Weebly only allows the user to use ONE (just one) font. The Twitterive project, which is multi-genre, begs for more than one type of font. The other annoying characteristic of Weebly is that the creators believe we're just too dumb to pick a font size on our own, so we get the (+)/(-) buttons. Okay, so one of these days I'll go back into my blogs and fix the font size and somehow try to match them up so they're all the same - a pretty annoying task when I can't simply pick a number!!
Weebly also likes to #*$% with me when it comes to uploading photos. Again, the "user friendly" aspect of Weebly allows the user to "stretch" the photo in order to change the size, and if you stretch it too far, the photo just disappears - into the abiss.... I just want to upload the @#$!@%#@! photo! God grant me the serenity...
Once I get past those two tasks, things normally run smoothly.
Workaround for font issue:
I wanted to add a diary entry for my Twitterive and I wanted script font. I did not want script font throughout the site - so, I created a word doc, used the parchment paper background and used my handy little Snip tool to capture the doc and saved it as a photo. I then uploaded the diary entries into my Twitterive. I also used to Snip tool for my magazine cover and to capture the screenshot of my character joining an online dating service.
More technologies:
I also used the HTML Scrolling text box widget and inserted a poem. (This may or may not go away.)
I'm currently working on a scene in a dating chat room. My high-tech husband found a website where I could create my own chat room - yay! I've created the room, and I'm working on my dialogue. Once I've got it complete, I will use all of the computers in the house to log-in as different characters and talk to myself! I do it all the time anyway, might as well get productive with it. I was going to take Snips of the chat room as the conversation progressed and then make a movie out of it with Microsoft Movie Maker; however, John found a better solution for me. I am going to use Camtasia to record my screen as Mae interacts with all the men looking to score. The beauty of Camtasia is that I can add in the commentary (Mae's thoughts/reactions) as the conversation is happening. It's going to take a little creative editing (and a good deal of #$%#^#& ) to cut-out any delays, but I think it's going to be worth the time. I've been playing with the application and it's a lot of fun, I plan on using it in other parts of my site. When I'm through making the movie, I'll upload it to youtube so I can place it on my site.
I'm also working on a slideshow/movie in Microsoft Movie Maker and using the Dell sound recorder and webcam programs that came with my laptop.
And, of course, I'm using Twitter and tweet, tweet, tweeting away!!
